Another plus of the day was Will's nursing attempts. Will nursed twice, once at 11am and once at 2pm. Both times he did a great job coordinating his breathing with this eating. He didn't need his oxygen turned up at all and he was able to take full feeds with no respiratory distress. With Will able to nurse twice, we just needed him to gain weight tonight. If he gained weight, we could move to the next stage of feeding. This stage includes Brandon giving Will his first bottle! Brandon just called the NICU and Will lost weight! He lost about 40 grams, but his nurse wanted to weigh him one more time at 11pm to see if his weight was a true weight. With the weight loss, we will have to continue on with stage one of feeding. This is a bummer, but I have to look at the overall picture and see that Will is doing well with him oxygen and we were able to wean him off his high flow. I know that the weight gain will come and that Will is smart enough to get through these feeding stages in a timely manner. Fingers crossed for another good day tomorrow!
